On February 28 Eleni gave a seminar titled “Interdisciplinary research in biological sciences” at the University of Michigan Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) brown bag series. It was exciting to discuss interdisciplinarity in biological research with ~15 undergraduate students from across the university!

Surojit Sural, graduate student in Allen Hsu’s lab, a dear friend and a wonderful researcher, with whom we ‘ve shared the same bench for the last ~4 years, is going to defend his PhD thesis on April 2! Congrats, Surojit!  Surojit Sural Dissertation flyer

Annie Goettemoeller, undergrad honors student in Neuroscience, who has been working on the maze project for the last ~3 years, will continue her studies as a graduate student at the Neuroscience program of Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia! Congratulations, Annie! 🙂

We have joined forces with Shai Revzen, Assistant Professor at EECS, U-M, and Brian Bittner, Robotics PhD student! Shai and Brian are interested in worms’ locomotion as part of their research regarding bio-inspired robots. We are very excited for this new interdisciplinary collaboration!

Ehsan has uploaded on GitHub the code for the basic results of our paper on the calcium dynamics of C. elegans ASH neuron, and also a WormTracker that he developed for our project on the effect of paramagnetic nanoparticles on C. elegans locomotion.
